Question of Passion

1/16/2005

Whatever happened to PASSION?

I find myself drawn to the era of the 1960’s and 70's mainly because of the passion people possessed. They were well educated was to why they held certain beliefs and they were not afraid to live out their convictions. These days people seem too intimidated to step out of line.

I am convinced the bloodshed in Iraq is something that should be protested more than it is now, but how? You see, I’m an idealist -- I can dream up the responses but rarely know how to organize my thoughts into action.

There is so much to be upset about these days, but we as a people don't appear to know how to speak out. Yes, Big brother IS watching. Are we too frightened to express ourselves? Are we too programmed that we are not willing to scare the big guys? Is it that people just really don’t care about the big picture as long as they are not soiled by a direct touch?

Maybe we have been entertained so much that we are now unable to have true opinions and emotions. Recently, I talked to people who can tell me everything about Brad Pitt & Jennifer Aniston’s separation but have no idea there is an up-coming Iraqi election.

This country is currently so divided. The recent past shows spilling of blood as a result of drastic Social divisions – the Civil War, The Vietnam War, Fight for Racial Equality... I’m solemn and awakened at the same time as I think through the picture history paints.

How do we let our voices be heard outside of emailing friends and blogging our thoughts? Where do we turn when our leaders fail to lead? Who do we shout out to in days like this? How do we begin to re-capture Passion?
